Admiralty, S.W.1.
8th January 1930.
sir,
With reference to Admiralty Letter dated 14th August 1929 CEinc.0117/29/236a, relative to the proposed removel of the Naval Armament Depot from Hong Kong to Stonecutters Island, I am commended by My Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to transmit for the information of the Army Council a plan showing the site which has been selected, in conjunction with the local kilitary Authorities, for the new repot. It is possible that the boundaries may require some light adjustment after a survey has been made and the actual lay-out agreed.
2.
My Lords have cabled instructions that a copy of this plan is to be handed to the General Officer Commanding with a request that he will notify the Army Council whether he concurs in the transfer of this site. A copy of the cable is attached.
3.
His Excellency the Governor has proposed that the Colonial Government shall pay 2,000,000 to My Lords for the surrender of the Naval Arsenal Yard and me tt's Island, on the understanding that all Naval Armament Stores are removed to Stonecutters. My Lords regard this as a most favourable offer and are anxious to obtain the requisite Treasury sanction to its acceptance in time to permit of provision being made for the scheme in the 1930 Navy Estimates. I am accordingly to ex- press the hope that Their Lordships may be informed at the earliest possible moment that the Army Council are prepared to hand over the site required in terms of Article 202 of the Regulations for Engineer Services.
